Families in Syracuse celebrated Father’s Day with a fun and lively baby race at Harvey’s Garden, where babies crawled to the finish line in a heartwarming and sometimes chaotic event.
Matthew DePrimo, whose nine-month-old daughter Phoebe took part, shared his joy about fatherhood. “The best part of my day is when I come home from work, and I hear her little squeaks as I come up the stairs because she knows I’m coming,” he said.
Phoebe was not the only little one in the race. Nine-month-old Burks also joined in, though his parents, Aryn Grover and her partner, were realistic about his chances. “We’re expecting absolutely nothing,” Grover said. “He’s probably going to come in last place. We’ll put him on the ground, he’ll look around, get overwhelmed, and then cry. But hey, we had to give it a try.”
The race had a standout participant—Harvey’s Garden owner Michael Greene’s daughter. She took an early lead, thanks to some preparation. “We’ve been working on her diet and making sure she was ready for the race over the past couple of weeks,” Greene said. Though she took a few breaks along the way, she finished first. “She’s a good crawler. We knew she had a chance, but it’s great to see her win,” Greene added.
At the end of the event, every baby received a medal. DePrimo, reflecting on the special day, said, “Nothing brings me more joy than making eye contact with her and her mom. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.” He also wished a Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, encouraging them to appreciate the blessing of fatherhood. “Happy Father’s Day to every dad out there. I hope they know how lucky they are to be called dad,” DePrimo said.
