WASHINGTON, Conn. — A one-month-old baby who was reported missing after being taken from his home early Sunday has died, police said. The baby’s mother was also found injured and is receiving medical care.

According to Connecticut State Police, Sadie Fleming, 27, left her home on Brinsmade Road before 7 a.m. Sunday carrying her infant son, Hudson Fleming. Authorities issued a Silver Alert and began searching for them.

The baby was found close to his mother, near a tree line. Emergency responders treated him at the scene and then took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is still under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Detectives gathered Monday at the apartment complex where Fleming lived and near the intersection of Brinsmade Road and Old Litchfield Turnpike, about a quarter-mile away. The apartments are managed by the Washington Community Housing Trust. A property manager on site said no one wished to comment and that “no trespassing” signs had been posted.

The case has been handed over to the state police’s Western District Major Crime Squad. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department and local officials are assisting. The town’s First Selectman, James Brinton, was unavailable for comment.

Police say there is no danger to the public at this time.
